We love going to the Kentucky Derby! This is the first year we are not going, but we are having a Kentucky Derby Birthday Party for Josh! Daddy is turning the big 3-0! Here's a look at the last three year's worth of Derby fun! 2010: A rainy, muddy mess...one to remember2011: Is she really sleeping in the middle of the Derby?2012: Are we in Kentucky? Derby de MayoLast year around this time, my good friends Emily & Kat hosted my Derby Bridal Shower. It honestly does not feel like it was that long ago! They did such an AMAZING job on everything! The decorations were so creative and the food delish! Since it's getting close to the Kentucky Derby (one of our favorite days here in the Jones' Household), I thought I'd share (or shall I say "relive") the great day. All the ladies wearing their Derby finest...hats were required. Emily & I...LOVE this picture of us. This was pre-Juliette =skinny. Mint Julep cupcakes...yes please! We had our own run for the roses complete with legal betting. And I won the best trophy ever...Josh :) This will be the first year in quite some time that we won't actually be able to attend the Derby. So...we are bringing the Derby to Florida! Josh's birthday is going to be celebrated Derby style! I can't wait to dress Juliette for her first Derby! Stay tuned!
I took Juliette to get her 2-month vaccines today. Talk about anxiety for a parent! I can't stand needles and getting shots myself...and it's 100x worse having to hold your baby and watch as she gets shots! Juliette is such a sweet baby, never colicky. Today, she screamed and scared me to death. It was the first time she has ever REALLY cried. We're talking tears. Tears streamed down her face. Daddy gets round #2 in June. And that's all I have to say about that.
p.s. Juliette now weighs 9 lbs. 4 oz.! Happy two months my sweet girl! And by the way...if you did not know...Juliette is famous in France. There was a comic strip about her in the 50's :) Josh found the book on-line that is full of the comics. Too bad it's in French and we don't know a lick of French!
This week has had its ups and downs. Louisville won the NCAA basketball tournament for the first time since 1986 making Josh the happiest fella in town. His good luck charm continues to be good luck. He better be nice to her so the win streak continues next year! Pappaw came to visit us for a few days bringing his usual fun-loving happy self. We took Juliette on her first trip to the Outback Crab Shack (which she slept through of course.) We ordered and attempted to eat a 1/2 fried platter (think 10 lbs. of fried fish, fried scallops, fried shrimp, fried clams, french fries & hush puppies. 10 lbs. may be an exaggeration, but it was a shitload). UGH. I felt like a ton of bricks afterwards. On a bad note turned good note, my breast pump broke on me. While to most of you out there this may seem like nothing big, to a woman that is breastfeeding and working, this is BAD news. It causes panic. Thankfully, Pappaw and I rushed to Target and got another. The day (and the milk!) were saved! That day turned good when I called the manufacturer and they are sending me a new one! So...I am going to return the other to Target and get the money back! Next Monday Juliette goes to the pediatrician for her two month check-up. Poor girl will be getting a bunch of shots. I am not looking forward to that. I am a big hater of needles and seeing a needle heading towards my little bundle of joy is not going to be fun. This girl has the cutest scrawny little legs I've ever seen! I had to take a picture :)
Getting Juliette to sleep at night has been our on-going goal since she was born. For a while she really had her days & nights mixed up. About a month ago, I was a bit frustrated and went looking for a solution. I ended up at Target where I found "The Napper." "The Napper" was a god-send! We found our miracle! It was the best $50 I have ever spent! Since getting "The Napper," Juliette sleeps for anywhere from 4-8 hours at a time! If you know of anyone with a newborn, get them this for a gift! They will love you forever! Some of our other favorite things... 1. Nuk Pacifiers: These are great in conjunction with "The Napper!"
2. aden + anais Burp Cloths: LOVE this brand and these burp cloths! 3. Fisher-Price Swing 'n Seat - Forest Fun: She could spend all day in this thing if we let her! 4. My Taggies Soccer Ball: She just stares at it at the moment, but she loves it. She WILL play soccer...and like it. 5. Gap Heart Ruffle One-Piece Swim Suit: It may not fit her yet, but she will be so cute in it! 6. Old Navy Romper: Too cute for words. 7. Gap Printed Tie Headband: ADORABLE! 8. Lansinoh Affinity Double Electric Breast Pump: We got ours basically for free thanks to the Affordable Health Care Act, but it really is a great pump at a great price! 9. Medela Easy Expressions Black Bustier: Two-words...Hands Free! |
